Applications now open through August 24

(Kyiv, Ukraine) -- Village Capital and MetLife Foundation are accepting applications from early-stage entrepreneurs in Ukraine working on fintech solutions to improve financial health for families and unlock access to credit and other resources for small- and medium-sized businesses. Applications are open here through August 24, 2018.

Twelve entrepreneurs will be selected to attend the two-day MetLife Foundation Financial Health Forum: Ukraine, which will take place from October 30-31, 2018 at UNIT City in Kyiv. The forum will culminate in a public event, where two finalists will compete for grants totaling USD $20,000, provided by MetLife Foundation. Village Capital is partnering with UNIT City and the Ukrainian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (UVCA) to convene top fintech stakeholders and recruit eligible startups.

MetLife Foundation is committed to working with partners, like Village Capital, to build actionable solutions to help individuals, families and SMEs achieve long-term financial well-being. Together, we hope to identify Ukrainian companies that are working to improve consumer financial health in their own country as well as in the region.

Ukraine is a particularly interesting market for startups because of the concentration of highly skilled technical talent, which we know has already earned Ukrainian startups international investment as well as several acquisitions. This same entrepreneurial approach can play a critical role in building a financial sector that serves everyone, and our partnership with MetLife Foundation will bring dozens of new entrepreneurs to the table. We’re excited to work with MetLife Foundation and scale Ukrainian innovations to create a healthier and more equitable financial system.

At the forum, participating ventures will have the opportunity to pitch their business model to diverse stakeholders, engage with leading investors and receive feedback from industry experts, including MetLife leaders. Entrepreneurs will also work with Village Capital’s globally recognized VIRAL Framework, which is focused on scaling a successful business and driving transparency in investors/entrepreneurs discussion to help startups raising investment capital.

MetLife Ukraine has always paid great attention to strategic initiatives, especially those aimed at the financial wellbeing and financial literacy of Ukrainian citizens. Through our collaboration with MetLife Foundation, we are happy to participate in the upcoming Financial Health Forum and support entrepreneurs who are making breakthroughs in consumer financial health. As always, our employees will support the entrepreneurs to the best of their knowledge and experience.

The forum in Ukraine is part of a two-year initiative developed by Village Capital and MetLife Foundation focused on identifying fintech startups working to improve financial health for low- to moderate-income families across the Middle East and Europe. Prior forums in Poland, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey identified and awarded funding to fintech entrepreneurs working on solutions ranging from digital financial management tools to digital payment apps.
